That cat is trying so hard! His/her tail is swishing so fast! You can see the clear look of determination on his/her face. That cat is SURE he's going to make it.
I showed this to Husband and you could tell on his face that he was determined not to laugh but he did anyway and had to go back to the last save point because he got killed by a circular saw.

I don't think it's actually animal cruelty. It's the exploitation of animal miscalculation.
And I think it's almost as funny as the time our cat was scared by a dust molecule and bounced off the door twice trying to get away.

My own cat did not find it funny. He says, "That guy appears to be chained or weighted - NOT COOL."
I usually fall in the garbage can when I try that. Messy. Especially during flu season.
Can an animal commit animal cruelty on itself? Should we call someone to arrest that cat? It's a complicated question.
I think external forces were at work here. Like the window knob (nob?). Totally threw off the sonar radar.
Japanese cats seem to do weird things proportionally more, because Youtube is quite laden with JAPANESE LETTERING and then cats doing funny things.

Set-up: the goal is clear.
Stakes: a huge jump across a deep chasm.
Build-up: that cat is so excited at how great this is going to be.
Reversal: sudden loss of traction.
Sound effects: scrape... BA-BOOM.
Resolution: pulled gut muscles for both the cat and us.
