Just when we were all like, "Oh, SURELY, universe, SURELY after that Wall Street Journal interview we could not POSSIBLY find a reason to love Cormac McCarthy MORE," there is THIS. Oh, Cormac! CORMAC! You want help writing your lady novel, you let us know.
We will make you some more young-person book recommendations next week after consulting Experts, dear Author-friends. Off to trample dreams and break hearts! MMM DELICIOUS!
That is sooo retro awesome.
Dammit. The next generation of writers will NEVER BE THIS COOL.
I just can't see people putting my AlphaSmart up for auction...
Off topic but just wanted to reassure you that out here in fly over country the sleek new blog look is coming through in glorious technicolor even on IE. It was always magnificent on Safari. But then, everything's better on a Mac.
I really didn't need a high school flashback. THANKS.
Actually, I come from the "transition" generation. I started freshman year using a dinosaur typewriter, and by the time I graduated, those clunkers had been replaced with PCs. It all happened very quickly. A blur, really, somewhere between sophomore and junior year.
How many people can say they learned how to type on both? Aww, I might be special after all. (Just let me have my moment, okay?)
Ahh, Cormac. I already can't wait to read the book he's writing now. Intriguing.
Enjoying Fanboy and Goth Girl? I'm thinking of picking it up next time I go to the bookstore. Actually, I've been thinking of picking it up every time I've gone to the bookstore for the past six months.
That's cool! I used an old Royal (not an Olivetti -- a Deluxe, I think) for years. Got it at an auction. Sadly, it was destroyed in a fire about twelve years ago. :(
Oh McCarthy, I love thee so.
I should say that I have a 1920 Royal. Mmmmmm. It's got glass windows in the sides so you can see the dark and glorious inner workings. Oh my pretty. Though, you know, I probably wouldn't write with it. I do have a 1960 or so Smith Corona that I can use, though, which once belonged to my father.
Admittedly I also have a laptop and a PC. I am conflicted, yes.
TOTALLY UNRELATED TO THIS POST:
LOOK WHO'S GOT 300 FOLLOWERS!
WOOHOO! THE MORE THE MERRIER!
Yes THIS is technically two days early, but are you really going to complain? No, of course not.
CELEBRATIONS!
That shit is crazy! Too much! Unreal! Does this mean we have to stop saying fuck all the time?
I just read the interview as well as checked out that typewriter. McCarthy rocks. I can't wait to see The Road. Loved the book.
"Does this mean we have to stop saying fuck all the time?"
Fuck, no! You might LOSE people if you did that. Hee hee.
what a wonderful story! as a young person i always feel like a pretentious twit when i use a typewriter. but i do love hearing that clackclack. feels like you're really getting somewhere.
can't wait to hear what you thought of 'fanboy and gothgirl'. i loved it. also really enjoyed 'boy toy', very powerful, really.
let me know if you need any aussie book recommendations, especially YA. i've just started reading your blog and am lovin' it!
