WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR BLOG?!? What happened is WE GOT FANCY, thanks to the indefatigable efforts of our Support Team, who stayed up until four in the morning EVERY DAY FOR A WEEK (on TOP OF a 55-hour workweek! for NO REWARD other than our delight!) to bring you our splendid new format. In addition to being an expert maker of soothing noises, cutter of hairs, sewer of garments, poacher of eggs, creator of beautiful objects, and calmer of rampaging Rejectionists (not to mention the only human being in the known universe both foolhardy and courageous enough to put up with us on a daily basis), our beloved Support Team is a total wizard of the internets!!! We hope you are as pleased as we are with our classy new look. Our content will not change, you may rest assured, dear Author-friends. Putting us in a nice outfit does not change the fact that we are bonkers.
So, HOW IS EVERYONE'S NANOWRIMO NOVEL? We offer our enthusiastic congratulations to those brave souls among you who have completed your 50,000 words. In the extremely unlikely event we go home and write 40,000 words this evening, we will be proud to join you. We ARE proud of ourself, however, for making our writing a priority this month, which is why we signed up in the first place, and thus we consider our efforts a Success. Who else Succeeded this month, hmm? You tell us, dear ones!
In other exciting November news, last week we received a PERSONALIZED REJECTION from a Prominent Literary Magazine!!!!!! ENCOURAGING US TO SEND MORE WORK!!!!! We could not have been more excited had said Magazine sent us a basket of unicorns!!!!!! And you think we don't know what you go through!!!!
THIS WEEK: Holiday book-buying guides! Exciting interviews! New Year's Resolutions! And, as always, MORE AWESOME!

But where does all the AWESOME come from? Are supplies dwindling in the recession? I mean, isn't there a finite source of AWESOME? Is there some small town in the Ukraine completely emptied of AWESOME on account of this blog?
And a nice rejection is nice. I got a nice one from Sven Birkerts a little while ago that asked me to submit more stuff. He even stated "This is not our normal rejection" just to make certain, which was very sweet. Plus, you know, his name is Sven. Gotta be a good chap.
Must go call the Ukraine now.

That first week of Nano, I pounded away 12,000 words and then my critque came back on another MS and it was back to work for me (which I finished btw).
So, I sit at 12,000. Oh well.
I love the new look, but on my computer the font is REALLY REALLY small... and I'm not usually bothered by small fonts. Congratulations on the nice rejection! :)

Dear Maya, are you using Safari? We are still fussing with how it looks in non-Safari browsers.
If you are on a mac you can also zoom in--if you have a newer, very high-resolution screen the font might look smaller.
Wow--this place looks expensive. I guess I'll have to start shaving & showering before I visit.

I am 1,300 words away from my 50K. Granted, it is 50K words of craptastic poo, but at least I know that it is craptastic poo at the moment.

I've already hung my NaNo winner's certificate on my wall and put the logo on my blog site where I have recounted my NaNo experience in today's post.
I'm pleased. I got a good start on a novel that might have some possibilities, posted on my blog everyday in November with fairly substantial posts, and did a lot of commenting on other blogs (and my comments usually aren't short).
Really put a big emphasis on writing this past month.

I wrote 35K words without meaning to this month. Then I went back and ripped into the MS, took out 6K, rewrote 4K more...you know the drill. So, all in all, it was made of win. But not intentionally. It could have gone either way, really. Inspiration is one picky bitch, no?

Since you asked, I finished my godawful NaNo novel and am as thrilled as if I had turned piss back into Patron.

I laughed out loud at this at work and then had to pretend I found something extraordinarily funny in Publisher's Lunch.
I got almost halfway to 50K, so I'm a loser.
But I did manage to unexpectedly appropriate the Oakland Earthquake of '89 for my own literary gain, so that was good.
Thank goodness there are no more words like fuck on the main part of your blog. Now this children's writer can go ahead and safely follow you without offending anyone by proxy.

Not doing the NaNo thing. Too busy freaking out over trying to write the perfect Breakup Scene O'Doom in my novella. Must've rewritten this thing about 50,000 times already...

As for NaNo, I didn't *win* at 31,500, but I did learn what I had hoped, how to keep the writer's block and inner editor at bay, and have already started putting the lessons to work on my non-NaNo WIP.
