Famous writers who succeeded by failing

Regardless of who you are and what you want to achieve, you need to make the first step. Certainly, this can be challenging, but the most important thing is that you don’t give up on your dreams and goals and continue trying until you fulfill them.

Just like other people, some famous writers had to deal with failure at the beginning of their careers. What kept them going was their love for writing and their dream to become great writers. They didn’t care much about whether their books would be bestsellers and they would earn a lot of money. They followed their passion and they never stopped dreaming.

J.K. Rowling

J.K. Rowling is the creator of one of the most famous characters of fantasy novels and later movies – Harry Potter. In the beginning, J.K. Rowling had to face a lot of problems because no one wanted to publish her Harry Potter book. In fact, she was rejected by as many as 12 publishers who simply didn’t like the story. If she had given up on her dreams, we wouldn’t be able to enjoy the magical world and the adventures of Harry Potter today.

Steven King

Another brilliant writer who had to deal with rejection is Steven King. His book “Carrie” was rejected 30 times. Even King’s friends and family suggested he should give up trying to publish the book, he never gave in. After so much effort and trying, he finally managed to publish his book, which was then sold in 1 million copies within the first year.

Vladimir Nabokov

When Vladimir Nabokov wanted to publish one of his greatest masterpieces “Lolita”, he had to go through a very similar experience like King and his book “Carrie”.  Nabokov’s book was rejected 26 times and it also received the following review: “I recommend that it be buried under a stone for a thousand years”. Despite all the criticism and negativity, he managed to find a publisher in France. After that, all of the publishers that had turned him down originally offered to publish his book.

Dr. Seuss

Dr. Seuss’s first book And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street had been rejected 27 times before this great writer managed to find a publisher. Fortunately, he didn’t give up on his dreams so we can enjoy reading his amazing literary pieces. Although he faced failure at first, he eventually became one of the most famous writers. Many activities have been organized all around the world to honor this great amazing writer and his literary work.

What can be concluded from all these success stories that began as failure is that when you are honestly passionate about doing something, you must not get discouraged when you face obstacles. Even if one path looks like a dead-end, maybe there is another path just around the corner waiting for you and your dreams to come true. Persistence and trust in yourself and your work are necessary to succeed in life.
