Unprecedented Interactive Opportunity with the Rejectionist! Also, John Bellairs
Friday, June 25, 2010
The other day we finally tidied our magical Writing Area and were so pleased with ourself we thought we might share photographs and perhaps a small essay on this wondrous corner of our apartment with our beloved Author-friends! And THEN we began to wonder about the Writing Areas of our Author-friends, and thought how nice it would be if our Author-friends had an opportunity to share THEIR photos and/or essays! SO HERE IS OUR BRILLIANT IDEA. On FRIDAY JULY 2, ONE WEEK FROM TODAY, the Rejectionist shall publish an Ode to Her Writing Area! And if you feel like it, dearest Author-friends, why don't YOU post an Ode to YOUR Writing Areas on your author-blogs sometime this week, and then LINK TO YOUR POST IN THE COMMENTS next Friday, and everyone can ooh and aah over everyone else's special place of genius, whether that is a corner of the reading room at the New York Public Library or a corner of your living room which has been barricaded from the interventions of your offspring.
So: post anytime this week! or if you already did a post of this nature long ago that's fine too! and link in comments on Friday! NOT TODAY! NEXT FRIDAY! It's not a contest or anything, just for fun and sharing. Okay? Okay!
Also: Today the Rejectionist pontificates on John Bellairs over at the Sharp Angle, blog of long-time Author-friend Lydia Sharp!
HAPPY PRIDE WEEKEND AUTHOR-FRIENDS!
Oh, a contest with no prize but recognition by the Rejectionist. I like it.
Fun!
This sounds fun, but I'm kind of disappointed. I read the blog post title and thought you wanted to make out or something. Ah well, this should be fun too.
I'm with Joseph - we have different ideas of the words "interactive." What can I say... evil turns me on.
OMG YAY SO MUCH FUN
!!!!
Oh Le R., I love John Bellairs more than words can say. Gorey's covers taught me at a young age that the world is an unsettling place.
I like the idea of a no pressure warm fuzzy peek into the writing spaces of others.
Ooh, I just got a book on this very subject: The Writer’s Desk, by Jill Krementz. I've always been fascinated by what writers have on their desks, or if they even write at their desks, and the book is a treasure trove of typewriters, ashtrays, cats, and a few early computers.
For some inspiration with your own photos, here’s a sampling in a review. For even more photos of writers’ desks (including Edward Gorey at work), click on the link at the end of the piece, plus the pages listed in the comments.
I'm in. And I'm not cleaning/organizing anything first. You've been warned.
Sounds like fun, but I'd better prepare for it on Mon/Tues, cause I'll be hard at work putting kids on/taking kids off of rides for the rest of that week. (I'm working at a local amusement park for the summer. Fun but exhausting.)
An ode to my writing place? Hm. Sounds kinky. I'm not sure what that means, though. The writing place that is. Not kinkiness. I have a fair idea of that. It involves kittens. But the writing place - do you mean the blog itself? Or the extra special area of the blog that involves your special writing, the one you want to force others to read? Or do you mean writing anywhere? I write in strange places.
Sigh. This makes me happy. I find that I am over contests, and, in fact, never in anyway appreciated them to begin with. Why do we, as an internet community, constantly invent contests? For the love of God, we're WRITERS. Haven't we all been picked last enough times in our lives? Which isn't to say I subscribe to the notion everyone on the team should get a trophy. Excellence should be celebrated. I'm just sayin', can we find excellence worthy of celebration in a throwaway internet contest? Probably not. But, you know, I'm sure plenty of people find them fun and entertaining. In any case, this makes me happy. Thank you, Le R. And happy pride weekend to you, too, my dear!
Also, I am sad I missed out on John Bellairs. Sounds like that would have made me enormously happy in my youth. Especially if Edward Gorey was involved. "T is for Titus who flew into bits."
This looks like fun! I can't wait to see everyone's writing spaces. I write all over. I'll have to think of how to represent that.
Here's my blog post! I totally win this contest.
I only just discovered this blog 3 days ago. Good stuff here.
Here's MY writing corner.
